Lots of history
Get to know the rich history of the city. On your own, in various museums, or ask to be shown around by a guide.
Zierikzee is the capital of Schouwen-Duiveland and has had a protected cityscape since 1971. This city is also known as a city of monuments.
Being a relatively small city, Zierikzee has a large amount of monuments, 568 to be precise. Trade, industry, and fisheries brought the city riches, wealth, and beauty. Because of this, Zierikzee already had an interesting silhouette with walls, gates, churches, towers, and mills at the start of the 15th century.
The old city gate provides access to the quaint inner city with many shops and cozy terraces. You truly feel welcome.
